Furnaces, AC and heat pumps

How old is my Daikin furnace, AC or heat pump?

Daikin heating and cooling equipment carry the build date inside the serial number. We know one serial format for this brand; the decoder tries each one and shows every reading that fits.

How to read a Daikin serial number

Daikin ductless units built in Japan or Thailand do not encode the date in the serial. Look for the MFG. DATE line on the plate instead.

Year and month, all digits (2012 to today (furnaces, AC and heat pumps built by Goodman))

The first two digits are the year and the next two are the month. The rest is a production number.

1602393269 reads as February 2016.

How long should it last?

Typical life of a furnace: 15 to 20 years

A gas furnace usually lasts 15 to 20 years. Well-maintained units in mild climates reach 25; units that run hard with dirty filters fail sooner.

Typical life of a central air conditioner: 12 to 15 years

Typical life of a ductless mini-split: 10 to 15 years
